Want to try kimono and matcha without spending your whole day on one activity?
TIA Asakusa offers a casual Tokyo tea ceremony with kimono that fits easily into an Asakusa sightseeing plan. Change into kimono, make your own matcha, take photos, and then decide how you want to continue your day.
Start with Kimono and Matcha
Your experience begins at Asakusa Aiwafuku, where you will choose a kimono and get dressed.
Once you are ready, you will go directly to the matcha experience. There is no sightseeing between kimono dressing and matcha making.
During the session, your guide will introduce the tea bowl and bamboo whisk, demonstrate how to prepare matcha, and help you make your own bowl.
You can then enjoy your matcha with a Japanese sweet and take photos or videos.
The matcha session takes approximately 20–30 minutes and is guided in simple English.

Choose How Your Day Continues
There are two ways to combine kimono and matcha.
・Short Indoor Experience
Choose the indoor kimono and matcha plan if you only want to wear kimono during the matcha session.
First, you will choose a komon-style kimono and get dressed. Once you are ready, the matcha-making experience will begin.
After making matcha and taking photos, you will change back into your own clothes. This plan is a simple option for travelers with limited time.
・Explore Asakusa in Kimono
Choose a full sightseeing kimono rental if you want to continue wearing kimono after the matcha experience.
You will change into kimono first and then begin the matcha session. After making matcha, you can visit Senso-ji Temple, Kaminarimon Gate, and other places around Asakusa.
Women’s sightseeing kimono plans include hairstyling.
Two Ways to Enjoy Kimono and Matcha in Asakusa
TIA Asakusa offers two ways to combine kimono and matcha. Choose the short indoor plan or explore Asakusa in kimono.

This plan is ideal if you want to wear kimono during the matcha experience only.
First, choose a komon-style kimono. Staff will then help you get dressed. Kimono dressing takes about 30 minutes.
Next, join the 30-minute matcha experience. You will learn how to whisk matcha and enjoy it with a Japanese sweet. You can also take photos and videos while wearing kimono.
After the session, change back into your own clothes. Then, enjoy Senso-ji Temple, Nakamise Shopping Street, and Kaminarimon Gate in comfortable clothes.
This plan takes about one hour, plus the time needed to change back. Therefore, it is a convenient choice for a relaxed half-day in Asakusa.

Which Plan Should You Choose?
Choose the indoor plan if you want a short kimono experience. You can take photos in kimono and then explore Asakusa in your own clothes.
On the other hand, choose the outdoor plan if you want to walk around Asakusa in kimono. This plan also includes basic hairstyling for women.
Both plans include a hands-on matcha experience. Therefore, you can choose based on your schedule and how long you want to wear kimono.
A Simple Asakusa Walking Route
After your matcha experience, walk toward Senso-ji Temple and enter from the quieter Hanakawado side.
Take photos around the temple grounds before continuing through Nakamise Shopping Street toward Kaminarimon Gate. From there, you can walk to the Sumida River for more open views and less crowded photos.
This route works well because you do not need to return to the shop between each activity. Remember to return your kimono by the designated time.
Is This Experience for You?
This experience is a good choice if you:
- Want to try making matcha yourself
- Prefer a relaxed activity without complicated rules
- Are trying a Japanese matcha experience for the first time
- Want to combine kimono, matcha, and sightseeing
- Need an activity that fits into a busy Tokyo schedule
The experience uses tables and chairs, so you do not need to kneel. Children, couples, families, friends, and solo travelers are welcome.
Before You Visit
Kimono dressing requires additional time before the 20–30 minute matcha session. Please arrive at the time shown on your reservation.
If you plan to explore Asakusa in kimono, carry light belongings and confirm the final return time before leaving the shop.
Make Matcha Part of Your Asakusa Day
Instead of choosing between kimono rental, sightseeing, and matcha making, enjoy them together in one easy plan.
Start by changing into kimono, make your own matcha at TIA Asakusa, and then explore the traditional streets around Senso-ji Temple.
